Enough about me...

Here are some questions! You will answer them in the comments! I will also answer them in the comments, sometime when it is not an hour after I should have been asleep.
1. If you could have anything for dinner tonight, what would it be?
2. What's your middle name? Is there a story behind it?
3. I'm giving you a pretend $100! What do you pretend spend it on? (You've GOT to pretend spend it! That's the pretend deal! Like in that movie Brewster's Millions.)
4. Your desk or alternate work space: neat or messy? And like, how neat or messy are we talking here? To what degree?
5. How was your day? (If it is the morning, then I'll leave it up to you to decide whether to tell us how today is going so far or how yesterday went. But everybody likes to be asked how their day was, right?)

Hi, Lori! Fairly recent, but devoted reader here. LoveloveLOVED your post on the whole healthcare debate debacle.
1. My grandmother's recipe chicken "pot pie." It's actually chicken and dumplings, but for some reason we all called it pot pie. I had it every year on my birthday, and that was one of the three occasions on which my family was not vegetarian (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my birthday). It's just that good.
2. Rainbow. Yes, it really is Rainbow. My parents were expecting a boy, so they had to wing it when I showed up all female and stuff. They heard my first name in the doctor's office, and there happened to be a rainbow on the day I was born, and voila! Baby girl named! (And yes, they were hippies.)
3. I would pretend spend it on a pair of Merrell boots: http://www.merrell.com/US/en-us/Product.mvc.aspx/W-F-F/12564W/0/Women/Footwear/Filters/Womens/Tetra-Launch-Waterproof I'd even chip in the extra 60 real dollars to get them. Stylish, but warm and traction-y. How can you lose?
4. The desk gets fairly messy during my workday (layers of papers on top of each other, empty coffee cups laying around, my keys/wallet/phone/five or so pens thrown wherever, but I almost always straighten it up before I go home for the day. A friend pointed out how much better her mornings went when she arrived to a neatly organized desk, and I have to agree.
5. Today is kind of weird. I'm suffering from an infected tooth, and while I wait for the antibiotics to get busy, I'm on Vicodin (because curling up in the corner crying was not especially fun). So I'm loopy and kind of narcoleptic, with occasional periods of pain. But at least I'm not (really) at work! What about you? Anything interesting going on today?

1. Margaritas and stove-top stuffing with a good friend.
2. jean. It is my Mom's name and now it is also my daughter's middle name.
3. Part of a plane ticket to Texas in June (plane tickets are expensive, did you know that?)
4. NEAT!! I did have this roomate once that used to have a super messy desk and she used cups to hold everything back. It took all I had not to clean her desk for her.
5. So far it is an okay day. Some classes have been good, others not so much. Yelled at a student, made a whole class practice how to act in class a couple times. But we are playing big ball basketball, so overall a pretty good workday. It will be better once I get home to my hubby, baby and pups.

1)Steak Au Poivre with grilled asparagus.
2)Jo. It sounded good with my first name, says my Dad.
3)Two choices, a) the iPhone (to jump or not to jump?) b) LL Bean boots http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=57102&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&from=SR&feat=sr
4)Messy/neat. I have piles.
5)It is fine. I have tomorrow off, so I am counting the minutes.

1) Pizza. Pepperoni and black olives with extra, extra cheese. Emphasis on the extra.
2) Lauren. No story except that my parents said they almost gave me Lauren for my first name. I wouldn't have minded being a Lauren, but then I couldn't be Jenn-sational. And that would just be tragic.
3) Formula and diapers? Because I have this coupon from HEB if I buy three cans of formula (at almost $25 a pop) I can save $6.50. And since I never have a spare $75 dollars laying around....If I were forced to spend it on myself, I would probably buy shoes. And a purple purse just like yours.
4) My desk is quite messy when I work. But when I leave to go home it's neat and organized. I hate coming into a mess or leaving one behind. And um, so does my boss.
5) Meh. It wasn't horrible. Though I'm looking forward to laundry, Project Runway and ice cream later.

1)Noodles my great aunt used to make when I was little. She died years ago and I have never been able to duplicate them. Oh and sugar cookies. She made the best cookies.
2)Diane. I have no clue where that came from. My aunt actually named me as I was born on her birthday. Diane is not part of her name.
3)I would use it towards airfare to go visit my nephew who just got back from Iraq. He is stationed at Ft. Hood and I have not seen him in almost 2 years. I love Texas, so that would be a bonus.
4)I have the messiest desk ever. Total clutter. I am in school and I work, so I have no time to straighten it up.
5)My day was just ok. Worked in ICU after I got out of school. Going to work at 5am tomorrow and I am not thrilled about that. Really looking forward to Sunday, my day off.

1.
Tonight I really wanted pistachio encrusted chicken with avacado dressing, my mom makes it and it is so good. but instead i had tabouli...pretty good...
2. My middle name is bridget, i like it, i think my mom just liked it and it's my irish heritage
3. I wish I had 100 to spend, i'd probably spend it on a ticket home for Christmas, right now I can't afford it
4. My work space is scary clean, it's a little scary how much i like to make sure my desk is clean.
5. I do like it when someone asks how my day was...ummm...it was fine:) ya know...same ole' same ole'

Oh, hey I said I was going to do this. So here we go:
1. Why did I ask such a difficult question? I already had dinner, which was vegetable barley soup. It was good, but all soup can be vastly improved by the addition of a sourdough breadbowl. So I'll go with that, along with a yellow cake cupcake with a giant mound of chocolate frosting on top.
(Amy and I really did have Stovetop Stuffing and margaritas for dinner one night when we lived in Austin and it was everything we knew it could be.)
2. Anne. I don't know that there's a story. I do always feel a little bit Anne Shirley about the whole Anne-with-an-e thing.
3. Any money I ever have tends to go toward eating out with friends, shoes, or plane tickets. So definitely one or more of those things.
4. My desk at work is very neat. I'm sure those of you who know me don't believe that, but it really, really is. My desk at home is another matter entirely. I never sit there to do anything, so it's basically one giant mound of stuff. Mostly books, receipts, and the receipt file that I bought and haven't yet gotten around to using. (I'm saving the receipts for FSA reimbursement and tax deductions for educator expenses. Not just some crazy receipt hoarder over here.)
5. It was fine. My eighth period kids were awful, but everybody else was pretty good. And I went for my second run of the Couch to 5K Program and didn't die. And tomorrow is Friday.

1. The fantastically delishious four-cheese ravioli I had at Maggianos in Mayfair Mall on Sunday. OMG!
2. Marie, don't think there is a story. although it does mean bitter, which i find ironic, amusing, and depressing, depending on the day.
3. the way i'm feeling at this moment, it would go to bills. if i were going to pretend splurge, I'd probably head to Savers and try to find some new clothes for winter.
4. both my desks are moderately messy. I can get what I need within a minute 90-95% of the time.
5. ok. hectic but productive day at the office. followed by a good massage (first ever) and then off to have taco bell and tv with the fam. now i'm home, doing this, eating a chocolate 'muffin' and then to bed.

1) First I would have made more mashed potatoes for myself than I did tonight. But if I could change it altogether, I'd have had gnocchi with pesto and pine nuts on top.
2) Elizabeth. I absolutely love my middle name and wish it were my first. My mom sometimes says it sort of came from nowhere or that she named me after Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder. My dad says he sneakily suggested it to name me after a relative of his with the name Elizabeth.
3) My first thoughts are that I should put it in the bank straight away. But if I HAVE to spend it, I suppose I will get a nice pair of boots with little buckles on the back at the top.
4) I try to keep my desk very neat. I like to have everything in its place. I deal with a lot of files coming and going from my desk so if there isn't space to look at them and keep them separate from each other, then I get frazzled. My desk at home is not so neat. The word clutter comes to mind.
5) My day was wonderful. Mostly because I switched my schedule around to a "compressed" schedule where I get every other Friday off - and tomorrow is my first Friday off!!

Thanks a lot, Laura. Now I have to go and change my answer for number one to gnocchi with vodka sauce from Da Gennaro in Little Italy, followed by a double chocolate cannoli from La Bella Ferrara. Final answer. I think.

1) A bowl of my grandmother’s red chili, fresh tortillas and for desert a glass of milk and chocolate chip cookies (the kind the crumble when you stuff them away in your carry on).
2) Chandra. It means moon in Telugu. Telugu is the official language of Andhra Pradesh, the state my father is from. There may be more of a story to my name, but I don’t know it.
3) Pretend spend? Oriental Avenue – maybe next roll I can buy a house.
4) On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the messiest place I’ve ever been (my bed room when I was 5). My desk or alternate work space is a…. Oh wait, I don’t have one....
5) It’s about 1243 am, so we’ll go with yesterday. It depends on when you ask me. The day starts out awesome and then starts dragging. But every day about 6:30-7:00 I get off work and can text and make phone calls and it becomes strangely awesome.

1. Steak, baked potato loaded with bacon, butter, & cheese, and a delicious salad. YUM.
2. Evelyn. My dad's mother passed away when he was 11, and Evelyn was her middle name. The odd part about it is that I have two sisters, but my parents chose to give ME her middle name. It turns out that I look just like her. One time I found my dad comparing our pictures in his study - it was a really special thing to see. I wish I could have met her.
3. I would use it toward the purchase of a new camera!
4. Very, very messy. Like, I can't find stuff I really need. It's awful, but not bothersome enough to cause me to stay late and do something about it.
5. It is Friday. Enough said.

1. Spaghetti with white clam sauce. I've been craving it for days...
2. Have two. First is Odette. It's the name of the princess in Swan Lake.
3. I would use it to buy books!!! (Where's my Border's coupon...)
4. Pretty messy. About 25% surface visible.
5. It's Friday and it's sunny. That's good in my book!
Have a great weekend. And I hope that Susan's nephew at Ft. Hood (see comments from yesterday) is safe.

1. Meatloaf...had it yesterday. Thanks Grahams!
2. Ann - kind of boring (with no e and all). It was my mom's best friend's middle name.
3. Shoes, of course!
4. Just getting started today, but it's the weekend. Might be hard to top yesterday with meatloaf, good friends, potato pancakes, and beer. : )

1. Fava beans and a nice chianti.
2. Albert. It's my dads name. Incidentally his middle name is his dads first name too.
3. "I'd build a tree fort in our yard." "Maybe we could put like a little tiny fridge in there somewhere."
4. Generally neat. OCD kind of neat. Piles of paper are orderly and squared up to the edges of the desk. Contents of drawers are organized by utility. Drawers are lined with Griptex to keep contents from shifting when opened/closed. Etc.
