Probably that title sounds a little weird. But see, my first few love list items this week stem from my current Viscous Phlegm of DOOM virus. Makes a person appreciate things. Things which include some of the following.
The power of audible speech. You don't fully appreciate it until it becomes elusive. This week's cold, when combined with three hours of reading the entire state standardized math test aloud to kids on Monday, followed by two hours of reading the questions and answers on the reading test aloud led to no having no voice by noon both days. This is problematic when your relationship revolves around phone calls. Also when your job revolves around talking.
Our librarian. She's great for numerous reasons and is the leading reason I'm considering a library science degree. But this week in particular, I love her for leading me to the video closet upon my whispered request for a movie that was at least vaguely English-related. We picked Series of Unfortunate Events. Because it's based on a book. Totally academic.
My coworker Kristen who voluntarily waded into the fray that is my 8th period in order to do crowd control for me. They had stuff to work on that didn't require me to speak, but they weren't going to work on it without a little vocal encouragement.
When I don't spend the first twenty minutes of my day coughing up globs of goo. I think I love that most of all.
I also love some non-cold-related items.
The Classic Margarita by Mike's - The Hard Lemonade people bring you a margarita in a bottle. It's good.
Having bought the margaritas to take to Amy's house when I got to see her last weekend. Amy and I have been friends since about kindergarten, so for...you know...almost twenty years. Ahem.
Drinking champagne while all dressed up in a beautiful performing arts center at intermission. Champagne paid for by someone else? Even better.
Craftsman bungalows with mission furniture. Raj's uncle turns out to have, in many ways, my dream house. I may have kind of drooled all over it. Figuratively, Internet! I hope.
The flight attendant on my plane from Dallas to Seattle. You know how, after they make the announcement about how everybody has to turn off their phones before we can pull away from the gate, but there are always people who can't be bothered? This woman went down the aisle saying, "I love you goodbye" to each such person in a tone of voice that I routinely use for statements such as "I know you're not chewing gum" with the middle schoolers. I hearted her.
The Internet. Specifically this one little corner of Twitter that, when the husband of one of our own died last week, gave over five thousand dollars to help a family we've never met and likely never will.
Wine tasting on a sunny day in Gruene.
(I really don't disproportionately love alcohol. It's just, I'm off cheese right now in an effort to stem the mucous tide, and it's difficult to think of other good things when I really just want some queso.)
Speaking of cheese, let's add this smile to the list.
But if so, allow me to recommend the last item on this list, Nyquil. And goodnight.
