Before we get to the BEST THING EVER! here's some other good stuff.
Item one: Goat Cheese and Asparagus Pizza from the WeightWatchers 5 Ingredient 15 Minute Cookbook. Mine had more ingredients and took about an hour because I made my own pesto instead of using store-bought as the recipe called for. Mine also had a lot more points than the cookbook indicated since I put about twice as much pesto on it as the recipe called for. Mine was delicious.
Surprisingly, that's about the amount of goat cheese that the recipe called for, which was more generous than I assumed WeightWatchers would be. I bought way too much of pretty much everything, so a couple of days later I made a quiche with the extra tomatoes, asparagus, pesto and goat cheese. It was also good stuff.
Item two: David Tutera. My roommate and I watched his show on WEtv (or however you're supposed to write that) yesterday and fell a little bit in love with him. He is, as near as I can tell, the second most adorable man alive, just after Tim Gunn.
Item BEST THING EVER!: Champagne Saturday! See, Raj had to work on Sunday, his actual birthday. So his roommate offered to make brunch on Saturday and Raj offered to pick up champagne and orange juice. I offered to show up and eat and drink like the mooch I am.
So we had our banana pancakes (two smashed bananas, one egg, heaping spoonful of almond butter) and eggs with a couple of mimosas each. We were feeling good. Just the right amount of lovely champagne buzz. What if we just kept that lovely little champagne buzz going all day? we wondered. We all waited for one of us to blink. Surely someone would laugh it off and we'd all go about the several responsible adult things we had to do that day. Awesomely, no one did.
Thus was declared Champagne Saturday!
Raj, who is bigger and probably drank more slowly, dropped me at the grocery store for snacks and went to the liquor store from whence he returned with FOUR BOTTLES of champagne. Bringing our Champagne Day tally to:
...six bottles. For three people. It was even nice out, so we took some blankets and a bottle and headed out to the back yard to sit and chat and drink champagne. Then we got chilly, so we went inside to sit on the couch and chat and eat cheese and drink champagne.
You're seeing the BEST THING EVER!ness, aren't you? After about five hours and all six bottles, we went into DC to meet more friends for Raj's birthday dinner. The conversation started something like this:
Us: We've been drinking champagne all day!
Internet, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you throw yourself a Champagne Saturday. Get yourself a couple of people you like to hang out with, a bunch of cheese (put the girl from Wisconsin in charge of that part), and two bottles of champagne for each of you. Then make sure you don't have to drive anywhere or eat dinner with people who mind a little slurred speech.
Et voila: BEST DAY EVER!
