|Dear Lori Graham,|
|Congratulations! You are now registered for the 2011 Dodge Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon - Half Marathon.|
I mentioned a while back how I was going to be running a half-marathon in Boston this weekend. Yeah, obviously that didn't happen. I'd been following my training plan religiously. There were no red Xs on my calendar. Until the sinus surgery. The first ten days' worth were doctor-mandated skips. The ones after that were me still being wiped out, then loss of motivation once I realized we really weren't doing the race, then just plain laziness.
The month before Raj's graduation consisted of a lot of going out to spend time with his friends before they all moved away for residency. I essentially gave up working out and replaced it with restaurant food and alcohol. So that's gone about exactly as well for my body as you'd imagine. I don't know exactly how not well since I've been avoiding the scale for a while now. But I did put on my swimsuit for the first time this weekend and...yeesh. A person shouldn't have a muffin top from her tankini bottoms is all I have to say about that.
The beauty part of the Memorial Day weekend half-marathon was going to be the way that training for it was going to have me all bikini-ready for summer. Instead, I'll begin training for the Virginia Beach Rock & Roll Half-Marathon, the same one I did last year, which takes place over Labor Day weekend. Training for it will hopefully mean being at least tankini-ready for my week at the beach in Delaware in August.
And, of course, to crash on the beach right after finishing the half. This year I think we're going to have to make the effort to attend the post-race concert. Because the headliner? BRET MICHAELS!
In Good Stuff Tuesday news, I can highly recommend these work out tank tops from Target. As much as I've slacked on any other form of exercise, I've only missed two yoga classes since I started in January. And I've worn the same blue tank top almost every time. I run on the treadmill before yoga, so I need to wear something with some wicking fabric so I'm not dripping everywhere, but most of my fancy work out fabric shirts are too short to not wind up showing midriff at yoga. But my new pink tank top is nice and long. I intend to buy several more like it. It even has a built-in bra, which doesn't do it for me on its own, but I like to double up for long runs.
Long runs. Which I'll soon be doing weekly. Up to and including 13.1 miles. Yeesh.
