Last year, I called this "your annual installment of things I'd like to have for Christmas and they mostly would require lots of magic and/or money and/or magic money." Yes, I'm quoting myself, for I am lazy.
Looking back at last year's post also reveals that I may have gotten a little bit of Monkey's Paw style magic. In that I got what I asked for, but not necessarily what I wanted. Specifically, I asked for lovely weather on December 29 on Pensacola Beach.
Aesthetically speaking, it was lovely. I got what I asked for. I just wish I'd also asked for it to be WELL ABOVE FREEZING. So, you know, live and learn.
I may as well kick of this year's list with something I pretty much always ask for: the perfect pair of jeans. For me. In terms of fit, price, and availability. (See, I'm being specific.)
Raj, here in our very own home with me for Christmas, our anniversary, and New Years Eve
Another fifty or sixty anniversaries to celebrate with Raj
For my hair to become magically impervious to humidity
And my skin to become magically oil free
A SuperTarget in Okinawa
A new TV show we'll love as much as we continue to love The West Wing
To continue to feel like the grad classes I'm taking really will make me a better teacher
The ability to spontaneously become a morning person. (School on this base starts at 7:20. Oy.) (Wait, I did I accidentally just parenthetically announce that I finally started working as a substitute? Apparently.) (More on that to come in its very own post.)
A self-cleaning bathtub.
A whole self-cleaning house would be a-ok with me, but if required to prioritize, I'd chose those. And the bathroom floors.
Free grocery delivery from the commissary
An almond kringle from Sentry (I'm going to attempt to bake one for the first time ever. If it turns out, I'll let you know.)
A magic carpet/teleportation device/floo network that could take us to see our families and friends and/or bring them here
More geckos. I haven't seen Eddie Lizzard or any of the Kennys in quite a while. Did they exterminate themselves out of a job here? I haven't seen any bugs in a while either, so maybe they've moved on to buggier pastures.
A ski trip to come together in the next couple of months with a fun group that includes good skiers for Raj to hurtle down black diamond slopes with and maybe also a Let's Ski Ever So Slowly Down the Easiest Possible Slopes partner for me. Though a half day of lessons and a half day of enjoying spiked hot chocolate in front of a crackling fire with a good book works for me just as well.
And now I'm off to the commissary, like I so very often am. (Not for long though, once my Christmas wish comes true!) You can leave us your own list in the comments. What'll it be, Internet?
