These days, Josephine usually wakes up around 8 or 8:30. Or I wake her up at 8:30. It still feels really wrong to wake a sleeping baby, but it's good to have some semblance of a schedule so I do it. Josephine is very, very happy to see me first thing in the morning. She smiles up at me from her crib and sneezes. (I think the sneezes have more to do with the overhead light turning on than with her delight that I came to get her.) I change her diaper, get her dressed, and bring her downstairs for her first bottle of the day. After she finishes and burps, I put my feet up on the coffee table and sit her up against my knees.
Then we sing.
Yes, we. I put on Pandora and sing to her. Usually, she sings along. It's the cutest thing ever. We've been listening to my Ingrid Michaelson station (Jo is partial to the Adele songs) but sometimes we get too much mopey music on it. (I'm looking at you, Coldplay.) Yesterday, I turned on my Christmas music station for the first time this year. And Jo loved it! Of course she did, because A) Christmas music is happy and fun and B) She is my daughter.
I kind of want to get a video of it, but I'd have to let go of one of her hands (we also dance) and she tends to get distracted by the phone and stop whatever she was doing when I try to take a picture or video. Plus I am busy singing with my girl. I like to think that even without video, I'll always remember my morning duets with Baby Josephine.
